Answer by phone call

Some surveys are asked in a short phone call in your language. You can also ring the survey line, or give it a missed call and be called back.

What you will learn

  • Answer a survey call by speaking
  • Start your open survey by calling the survey line
  • Use a missed call to be called back

Calls are made by SmartSurv’s automatic voice assistant. It speaks English, Twi, Ga, Ewe, Hausa, Ghanaian Pidgin or French, depending on the survey. It reads the answers aloud and understands short spoken replies.

Step by step

  1. Answer the call. The assistant says who the survey is for, how many questions there are and how long it takes.
  2. For each question, say the number or the answer: for example “one” for the first answer, or “yes” / “no”. Number words work in English and Twi (baako, mmienu…), and yes/no words such as aane and daabi.
  3. For a score from 0 to 10, just say the number.
  4. If the assistant didn’t catch you, it says “Sorry, I didn’t catch that” and asks again.
  5. At the end you are paid the same way as on WhatsApp.
  6. To take a survey you were invited to by phone yourself:
    • call the survey line number given in your invitation, or
    • give it a missed call (ring and hang up) and wait: SmartSurv calls you back.

What you will see

  • If you miss a survey call, SmartSurv tries again later, then sends the survey on WhatsApp or by SMS instead.
  • If you call and no survey is waiting for you, the assistant tells you so.
  • Some surveys record calls. When they do, the assistant tells you at the start.
